A Guru and the dance of hungry ghosts

Wrapped in Orange Cloth and Sanskrit

The Dance of the Hungry Ghosts

If someone had told me that my greatest lesson in manipulation would come wrapped in orange cloth and Sanskrit, I would have laughed.

India did not disappoint me.

Some gurus did….surprised me.

Not all of them. Only the ones who confused disciples with admirers. The fashioned orange people.

Somewhere along the road, enlightenment became a brand. Ash became marketing. Silence became strategy. Humility became performance. And the guru became a product.

History is full of them.

The celibate preaching desirelessness while sleeping with his disciples. The enlightened master collecting Rolls-Royces. The tantric teacher explaining that sleeping with him is part of your spiritual evolution. The meditation master who convinces you that every doubt is simply your ego resisting awakening. The guru who demands absolute surrender before he has earned absolute trust.

Different traditions. Different robe color. Orange..the new black. The same psychology.

Power wrapped in spirituality is the most seductive power of all — because nobody thinks they're joining a cult. They think they're looking for truth.

The tragedy is not that fake gurus exist. Every profession attracts narcissists. The tragedy is that spiritual language can become the perfect camouflage. Once every contradiction becomes "a teaching," accountability disappears.

If he humiliates you, he's breaking your ego.If he doesn't follow rules os for the maya.If tou don't folow his rules, yoibare not Maya anymore.

If he sleeps with you, he's transmitting energy. He smels yoir trauma , weakness and needs and he will allure in his net like a versatile spider .

If he lies, it's beyond your understanding.

If you question him, you're simply not evolved enough.

Convenient…on one side.

There is an old idea, older than any ashram: the Hungry Ghost.

A being with a throat the width of a needle and a stomach the size of a mountain. It can never eat enough to feel full. It is not punished by hunger. It is punished by the shape of its hunger.

Every fake guru is a hungry ghost in colored cloth..orangered,black, ash..

And here is the part we don't like to admit: so is every disciple who kneels before one.

The disciple hungers to follow. The guru hungers to be seen. Two different appetites, feeding each other, mistaking the transaction for transcendence.

This is the dance of the hungry ghosts. Nobody is only feeding. Nobody is only fed. Two ghosts find each other across a crowded room, each one certain the other is the meal.

Lacan had a word for what the guru comes to occupy:” objet petit a.” The object-cause of desire. Not the thing you want — the thing that makes you want. The guru doesn't fill your emptiness. He becomes the shape of it. You are not worshipping him. You are worshipping the gap he has learned to stand inside.

This is why he can never simply teach you and let you go. Your need is his oxygen. Your surrender is his proof of existence.

Hannah Arendt understood something adjacent to this, from the opposite end of power. Real authority, she noticed, does not require constant visibility to Survive. It does not need applause to keep functioning. It was tyranny that needed the crowd, the spectacle, the eyes — because tyranny has no legitimacy of its own. It must borrow legitimacy from being witnessed, again and again, or it ceases to exist.

A guru who needs to be seen is not transmitting anything. He is performing survival…merely reduced to some basic needs and shiny beads.

Marketing understood this before spirituality did. Manufacture the Hunger. Become the only cure for the hunger you manufactured. It works on Sneakers. It works on Gurus.

The Sanskrit word guru does not mean celebrity. It does not mean influencer. It does not mean a man in an orange robe with a large following.

It means the one who removes darkness — not the one who asks you to switch off your own.

A real guru does something profoundly inconvenient: they slowly become unnecessary. They return your authority to you. They sharpen your discernment instead of replacing it. They do not ask you to worship them. They teach you to stop worshipping anyone.

Perhaps that is why fake gurus fear one thing more than criticism: a student who has discovered the inner guru.

Because the moment you trust your own direct perception more than someone else's performance, the spell breaks…the prince becomes the frog again..muddy and ugly by its symbolic nature.

And every empire built on borrowed enlightenment begins to collapse…because Maya cannot resist Truth .

The dance ends the moment one ghost stops dancing…or maybe they just eat eachother in a last gesture of autophagy.

The fake guru and the fake student as hungry ghosts thet dzvorate eachother nees to feel fully alive and satiated.
